Rooted in empathy

because therapy should be safe, empowering, and fun.

DC Counseling specializes in compassionate, personalized therapy for children, teens, and young adults. Whether it’s big emotions, anxiety, school stress, family changes, or self-esteem struggles, we meet young people where they are - with empathy, understanding, and proven strategies.

Using approaches like play therapy, CBT, and family systems, we support clients through life’s challenges, from early childhood through the transition to adulthood. Our goal is to help young people build resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and feel empowered to navigate their world with confidence.

Services Provided by DC Counseling

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought and behavior patterns to improve mood and coping skills. Great for anxiety, depression, and stress.

Compassion Focused

Helps you develop kindness toward yourself, especially if you struggle with self-criticism or shame. Through mindfulness and emotional exercises, we’ll work together to cultivate a nurturing inner voice and ease emotional distress.

Culturally Sensitive

Creates a safe space where your unique background, identity, and experiences are honored. We’ll explore challenges with awareness of cultural, racial, or societal factors, ensuring care that respects your whole self.

Play Therapy

Helps children express emotions and process experiences through the natural language of play. In a safe, creative space, they build coping skills, explore feelings, and heal—without the pressure of ‘adult’ talk.

Trauma Focused

Provides a structured, compassionate approach to processing past trauma at a pace that feels safe. We’ll gently reduce its emotional grip while rebuilding trust in yourself and the world.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Helps you understand and heal different "parts" of yourself (like inner critics or wounded aspects) with compassion.

Psychoanalytic

Explores how unconscious thoughts and early experiences shape your current behaviors and relationships. Through deeper self-reflection, we’ll uncover patterns to foster lasting change and self-understanding.

Person-Centered

Built on the belief that you are the expert of your own life. In a supportive, non-judgmental space, we’ll focus on your unique experiences, emotions, and goals—helping you find clarity, growth, and self-acceptance at your own pace.

Strength-Based

Focuses on your existing resilience, talents, and values—not just problems. We’ll highlight what’s already working in your life to empower growth, confidence, and meaningful solutions.
